Two of the best coaches I’ve worked with now coach at a local high school. Lupe Cabada and Sarah Raitter are not only amazing coaches, I am honored to call them friends. They both coach at Damonte Ranch High School here in Reno, NV. As a very last minute fundraiser (less than a week to put things together), they directed – and ran – relays. Four races, four people on each team.
First up was a 1600. Each of us ran 4 laps for a mile total. We decided we preferred a hand slap over carrying a baton……
Second up was a mixed bag. 1200, 400, 800, 1600. I ran the 800 distance.
Third was an 800 – we stayed in our lineup and each ran an 800.
Last was a 400. One lap each.
First of all, I had an amazing team. Courtney, Lucia and Margarita were all fantastic. It was a blast and from a runners perspective, things went seamlessly. I know as race directors, there will be tweaks for next time, but it really was a great event. Very fast, very fun, really competitive and great to see so many high school aged kids kicking my butt.
